G2 Esports are officially the LEC 2022 Spring season champions, after sweeping Rogue at the just concluded Spring Finals. The Spanish organization defeated the blue and orange team 3-0 to clinch the title.??
??Having finished the regular season placing fourth with 11 wins and seven losses, G2 Esports were nine points below Rogue on the table. Rogue had the best outing in the regular season, leading the league with 42 points from 14 wins and four losses. ??Despite their regular-season run, G2 have out-drafted and outperformed every opponent they have faced leading to the Finals, dishing out clean sweeps in the process. Vitality, Misfits, and Fnatic were all dealt the same blow as G2 gained momentum, working their way to the Finals against Rogue.
??Rogue were designated as the favorites by esports betting sites, and they were right to dictate as such going by their form and head-to-head encounters with G2. In their last four meetings, Rogue had recorded three victories, only losing one of the LEC Spring 2022 group stage match-ups. G2 came into the Finals on the back of 12 consecutive wins in the lower bracket and seemed prepared for whatever challenge Rogue was going to throw at them. ??
The all-new G2 team pulled a rabbit out of the hat, sweeping the best team in the regular season. Rogue have now made it through to the Finals twice in close succession without clinching the title. The franchise is yet to win a LEC title since its inception in 2013.
?Rasmus “caPs” Winther put up a magnificent performance to aid in G2 Esports’ domination over Rogue. He played a huge role in G2 claiming their ninth LEC title, making them the most decorated esports team in the league. The “Baby Faker” put up back-to-back stellar performances, making a claim as to why he should be in the top-three mid laners conversation.
?Another veteran, Marcin “Jankos” Jankowski, had an amazing input in G2’s victory. This win automatically makes G2’s top laner Sergen “Broken Blade” ?elik the only player with both LCS and LEC titles in the history of League of Legends.??
Being the LEC champions, G2 Esports will journey to Busan, South Korea, to represent Europe at the 2022 Mid-Season Invitational, marking their first appearance at the MSI since 2020. G2 won the Mid-Season Invitational in 2019, which made them the first Western team to win the title.?
