The third round of League of Legends Pro League (LPL) 2024 Spring Playoffs will serve us with a clash between JD Gaming and Weibo Gaming. The two Chinese LoL sides last met in the penultimate week of the regular season, when Weibo won; however, they’re priced as heavy underdogs for the rematch.
Weibo Gaming haven’t looked great this split. They’ve lacked consistency and had issues in the mid and late game. However, they have improved as the season has gone on and played some of their best games in the final weeks — including their 2-0 sweep of JD Gaming.
Weibo Gaming enter the third round of the playoffs following two close but deserved victories against Invictus Gaming and LNG Esports. Playing 10 maps gives Weibo some momentum, but it also gives JD Gaming plenty of film to look over.
A majority of the time, Weibo Gaming pass the 20-minute mark with a gold deficit. While they have improved in that area of late, Weibo haven’t been reliably leveraging the rare early advantage they get.
JD Gaming are your typical stable LPL team that is solid in all areas of the game. They had a rough start but improved significantly in the latter stages of the split. So the question here is not so much whether JD can win, but rather what Weibo can do to cause an upset.
Assuming Weibo Gaming play to the best of their ability, they should be able to do some damage. But even then, it’s tough to believe they can take more than one map.
