Krafton, a South Korean online game company, has announced details for the PUBG Nations Cup 2022, a global competition featuring 16 national PUBG teams that will take place in Bangkok, Thailand, from June 16 to 19.

This is the game’s first edition after a two-year absence from the esports scene. It is also the first time a live crowd will watch PUBG since the PUBG Global Championship in November 2019, just before the COVID-19 outbreak.

The PUBG Nations Cup returns with 16 national teams competing for a piece of the $500,000 prize money, second and third place will be awarded $58,000 and $50,000, respectively.

Also, Krafton has confirmed that free tickets would be distributed on-site at ICONSIAM Mall at TRUE ICON Hall. Because the space has a maximum capacity of 1,200 people, tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, meaning early birds are most likely to get slots than others.

Whilst the $500,000 prize pool is still below PUBG Mobile’s previous worldwide tournament’s $600,000, PNC 2022’s award could be raised by the sale of in-game items. Krafton has disclosed that the prize pool for the competition would be funded by 30% of the revenue from in-game purchases.

Unlike other PUBG events, the best players in the PNC are selected by their teammates to represent their zone as the official representative. Only the best battle gamers will get a chance at fame and, of course, a piece of the prize money.

The competition will feature 64 participants from 16 different territories from four different regions. Amongst them are the United Kingdom, Finland, Turkey, and Germany from Europe; from the Americas are Canada, Brazil, Argentina, and the United States; the Asia Pacific including, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Australia; and then Asia consists of Korea, China, Japan, Chinese Taipei.

Europe is likely to be the focus of attention across all areas. This is as a result of the powerful and renowned players from each territory that was selected to represent their team. Some of which are: Christopher “Fexx” Wheddon of FaZe Clan for the UK; Anssi “mxey” Pekkonen of Team Liquid for Finland; Tim “Myca” Bodenseh of shiftW for Germany and Furkan “Smashbae” Sanli of BBL Esports for Turkey.

The PNC 2022 will use a “point rule” format that incorporates both elimination and placement points. On Erangel and Miramar five games will be contested per day, for a sum total of 20 matches. After 20 matches, the team with the overall highest points will be crowned the winner.

The PNC 2022 will be broadcast on PUBG’s official platforms on Twitch, YouTube, and Facebook.

        The 2019 PUBG Global Championship

The PUBG Global Championship 2019 is the last tournament that was hosted as a result of the Covid-19 outbreak.

The competition featured 32 of the best teams from nine different regions. A group stage, an elimination stage, a playoff, and a grand finale were all part of the PUBG Global Championship 2019. The initial first three stages took place within the confines of the OGN Super Arena in Los Angeles, California.

The Cup Final was held in Auckland on November 23rd and 24th. And the tournament champion was crowned in Oakland Arena, as the winner clinched $2,000,000 from a total prize fund of $4,000,000.

The PUBG Continental Series (PCS) 6 Americas has finally come to an end after a thrilling thirty-round marathon in two weeks.

Soniqs, who finished in first place, has been rewarded with 450 PUBG Global Championship (PGC) points and $60,000 of the $250,000 prize pool. With that many points, the North American Kings have inched closer to a spot in the global championship.

To qualify for the global championship via points, Soniqs need to finish at least fifth in their next two events. They have the ESL Masters Phase 2 and PUBG Continental Series 7 to gather as many points as possible for the showdown of the season.

As things stand, they have a total of 545 points, 165 more points than eUnited, who has the second-most points in the Americas.

So far this season, their worst finish was third in the ESL Masters Phase 1 behind eUnited and Shoot To Kill. For their effort in that competition, they were awarded 95 PGC points.

While point gathering will undoubtedly be crucial in their quest for a PGC qualification, it might not be necessary. If they manage to win PCS 7, they will get automatic seeding to the 2022 PGC.

Although there is not much information on how the 2022 PGC will run, Soniqs could be one of 32 teams fighting for a larger piece of the prize pool. Last year, they had a total prize pool of $4,340,000, and there is a chance it might be more for 2022.

Six slots have been allotted to Americas, and given how well they have played in their first two competitions, it will be a travesty if they lose their way and fail to get the needed points to secure their qualification.

A recap of Soniqs performance in the PBUG Continental Series 6 Americas

Soniqs put together an outstanding display in the PCS 6, to the surprise of many. Not much was expected from the team given their slow start to the year, but they successfully turned things around.

The team almost missed the PCS 6 following a late qualification through the last chance qualifier, and that was the reality check they needed. They took the opportunity to once again assert their dominance in NA.

It was an interesting ten days for Soniqs, as they put together mind-blowing numbers in the tournament. Kills came easy, as it seemed like every move they made ended in their favor.

The tournament followed a simple format, where teams gain points via kills and placement points. A first-place finish will earn the team ten points, while player points are also awarded for every enemy player killed.

These make up for the team’s total match points per round. Although there was a system that helped to tackle ties, Soniqs did not need it as they were miles ahead of their opponents.

Of the 30 rounds played, Soniqs won a tournament-best seven, while the closest team in that category finished with five. They accumulated a total of 165 kills to finish ahead of YAHO, who had 154. Soniqs finished with 289 total points (placement and kill).

If the Soniqs continue with their impressive form, qualification to the PUBG Global Championship 2022 is a guarantee.

There is still a lot of action to look forward to in PUBG, as Europe and Asia are yet to commence the PCS 6. Both regions will start on April 29 and will run till May 8.

Players will also be playing for a chance to represent their countries in the PUBG Nations Cup returning this year. That tournament will run for three days from June 16, with a $500,000 prize pool to be shared among nations.

PUBG Corp. revealed their plans for the 2020 season of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds esports scene and detailed look into the PUBG Global Series, which will kick off with its opening event in March 2019 in Berlin, Germany.

The announcement was posted on the official website of PUBG earlier on Friday, where PUBG Corp. unveiled their ambitious plans for the future of PUBG esports scene and provided the community with a more detailed look into how PUBG Global Series (PGS) will look and operate.

PGS was initially revealed in December 2019, as the first step towards expanding the PUBG esports scene and building off the momentum set by 2019 PUBG Nations Cup and Global Championship.

“PGS looks to further grow our esports fandom and ecosystem with an improved competitive structure, increased revenue sharing with teams, and greater opportunities for third-party tournament organizers.”

Due to the all the positive feedback PUBG Global Championship 2019 received, PUBG Corp. decided to divide 2020 season of PGS into four global events, which will be hosted in major cities around the world in April, July, October and the grand finals in November. The opening three tournaments will all feature 32 teams and a larger prize pool, which will be supplemented by crowdfunding.

The format of the events will award the top four teams from the most recent global competition with direct qualification for the next event, while the remaining 28 spots will be filled with teams who participate in regional qualifiers, set to be played in six regions, including Americas, Asia Pacific, Japan, Europe, China and Korea.

Each PGS event will be divided into Group Stage, Elimination Stage, and Grand Finals. Out of 32 teams who will compete in the group stage, only top 12 (six from each group) will advance into the Grand Finals, while the Elimination Stage will serve as the last opportunity for four more teams to punch their ticket for the final stage.

The fourth and final major event dubbed the 2020 PUBG World Championship (PGC) will feature only 16 teams who will duke it out for the title of 2020 world champions. Competing at the culminating event will be top four teams from the previous PGS event, while the remaining 12 spots will be filled with the highest-ranked teams based on the sum of points they scored in the Grand Finals of each PGS event.

Each PGS event will have US $500,000 up for grabs, while the PGC will feature a $2 million prize pool. Each prize pool can and will increase, due to crowdfunding with the in-game items, much like it’s the case with Dota 2 and The International, where the majority of the final prizepool comprises of community crowdfunding.

As a part of the revamped revenue sharing program, PUBG Corp. unveiled that, for every PGS event, 25% of PGS item sales will be shared with the participating teams, where 10% of the sales will be contributed to the event prize pool, another 10% of sales will go to the teams and 5% towards the prize pool of PGC 2020.

PUBG Corp. also guaranteed $20,000 to each team that will participate at the PGS events. In a bid to incentivise PUBG players to help fund PGC events, PUBG Corp. announced the return of Pick’Em Challenge with added features and high-quality PGS items.

The first event of 2020 PUBG Global Series will take place at Messe Berlin, Berlin, Germany, starting on March 31, and ending on April 12, 2020. Participating at the event are Gen.G, Four Angry Men, FaZe Clan and OGN Entus, as the top four teams at PUBG Global Championship 2019.

Joining them will be 27 teams who will have to qualify via their respective regional qualifiers including Korea, Americas, Europe, Asia Pacific region, Thailand, Vietnam, China, Japan, as well as the champions of PUBG Master League 2020 Invitational.
