TEAM LIQUID vs FURIA DREAMHACK MASTERS SPRING 2020: NORTH AMERICA BETTING PREVIEW
The third matchday of DreamHack Masters Spring 2020: North America will see Team Liquid and FURIA lock horns for the third time this month.
Team Liquid are not the powerhouse they were back in mid-2019 when they hoisted the Intel Grand Slam (IGS) Season 2 title. While the North American juggernauts were dealing with inconsistencies even before the Counter-Strike esports landscape transitioned to online play, their struggles have reached a new heights of late.
Since the turn of the year, Liquid have participated at the BLAST Premier: Spring 2020 Regular Season, IEM Katowice, ESL Pro League Season 11: North America and ESL One: Road to Rio – North America. Their best placement came in the ESL Pro League, where Nicholas “nitr0” Cannella and his crew won the gold medal in a rather uncompetitive field. Liquid lost to FURIA (1-2) and Swole Patrol (0-2) in that run, although they swept Evil Geniuses in both the upper bracket finals (2-0) and the grand finals (3-0).
At ESL One: Road to Rio, the reigning IGS champions produced a couple more iffy displays. They dropped a map against the recently disbanded Bad News Bears (2-1) and lost to Envy (0-2) and FURIA (0-2). In the playoffs, Liquid defeated 100 Thieves (2-0), lost to FURIA (0-2) and dropped the ball against Cloud9 (1-2) in the third-place decider.
Liquid enter this fixture with a 2-4 record in their last six, which is concerning on its own. When we take into account that two of those losses came against FURIA, it’s fair to assume nitr0 et al won’t have an easy time this Thursday.
With a perfect 3-0 head-to-head record against Team Liquid in 2020, FURIA will fancy their chances to make it 4-0. The Brazilians are 8-2 in their last 10 matches, during which they lost only to Evil Geniuses (0-2) in the semi-finals of ESL Pro League Season 11 and against Gen.G (1-2) in the grand finals of ESL One: Road to Rio.
Andrei “arT” Piovezan and co. have not been immune to ordinary displays, as shown when they dropped maps in recent fixtures against Envy and Yeah Gaming. Nonetheless, a strong run of form overall has seen the Brazilians overtake regional rivals MiBR in the CS:GO global rankings and break into the top 10 for the first time this year.
FURIA’s success in the past three months comes down to strong performances from Yuri “yuurih” Gomes, Kaike “KSCERATO” Cerato and Henrique “HEN1” Teles, who have averaged 1.19, 1.22 and 1.13 match ratings respectively. The remaining two members, Vinicius “VINI” Figueiredo and in-game leader arT, have averaged 0.97 and 1.05 respectively.
TEAM LIQUID vs FURIA DREAMHACK MASTERS SPRING 2020: NORTH AMERICA BETTING PREDICTIONS
It looks like we are in for another exciting bout between these two sides, and the tight match odds reflect that. Team Liquid enter the clash as slight favourites due to the star quality they possess, but it’s FURIA who are in better shape.
These teams met twice at ESL One: Road to Rio earlier this month. FURIA won the first clash in commanding fashion, picking up a 16-5 win on Vertigo and 16-13 on Inferno. Their second fixture was much closer, but the Brazilians still came out ahead with a 16-14 result on Overpass and 16-12 on Vertigo.
As such, there is no reason to bet against FURIA this Thursday. The online format favours close bouts, so there is also value in the +111 for the series to go the distance.
